India and South Korea inked a comprehensive economic partnership agreement in 2009, with ethylene-vinyl-acetate (EVA) resin being one of the beneficiaries. It’s little surprise then, that several South Korean suppliers are among the market leaders in supplying this resin to the Indian market. Although the market leader is Sipchem of Saudi Arabia, four of the top eight EVA suppliers to the Indian market hail from South Korea. The EVA supply base is diverse, including Italy’s Versalis, Dow-Mitsui Polychemicals/Dow Chemical, and ExxonMobil Chemical in addition to the Korean contingent of Hanwha Solutions, Hanwha TotalEnergies Petrochemical, LG Chem, and Lotte Chemical. Taiwanese suppliers, on the other hand, do not participate in the market to any great extent given their tariff disadvantage. Key applications served are footwear, solar encapsulation film, hot melt adhesives, and extrusion coating.
The situation for LDPE contrasts that of EVA in that no country enjoys tariff-free market access. Leading suppliers hail from a diverse array of countries, with the leading players being LyondellBasell Industries, QAPCO, Dow Chemical, SCG Chemicals, ExxonMobil Chemical and Borouge. Blown film and extrusion coating are the leading processes.
The MOST A&I LDPE/EVA Intelligence Report for the Indian import market also analyses specialty PE copolymers used in adhesives for packaging and industrial applications, wire & cable, and polymer modification, among various other applications. These includes acid copolymers and acrylate copolymers such as EAA, EEA, EMA, EMAA, ionomer and terpolymers.
